Teleconferences
AIA's
Teleconference held on December 16, 2009.
Our Presenter:
Donna Whyte-English, MSN, FNP-BC, CCAP
Topic:
Clinical Aromatherapy for Behavior Management in Dementia
About the Teleconference:
Over 50% of individuals with dementia have behavioral or psychiatric symptoms;, which increase suffering for the person with dementia, the burden for care-givers, and the overall cost of care. The most commonly used conventional pyschotropic agents, neuroleptics and benzodiazepines, are often poorly tolerated, have a high incidence of side effects and can be costly. This teleconference focuses on using clinical aromatherapy as a safe and effective adjunct or alternative for dementia-related behavioral symptoms. We'll discuss case studies from the presentor's clinical practice, review relevant scientific literature, and talk about ways to incorporate essential oils into the care of elders.
